What is high mast light, and where is it typically used?

High mast light is a type of outdoor lighting system designed for large open areas. The lights are mounted on a tall steel pole, usually between 15 m and 50 m high, with several powerful luminaires installed on a circular lighting frame at the top. Because the installation height is much higher than a normal street light, one high mast pole can illuminate a much wider area and reduce the number of poles needed across a site.

A standard high mast lighting system normally includes a tapered steel pole, a lighting platform, multiple LED floodlights, and an electrical control system. Many modern designs also use a raising and lowering mechanism, allowing the lighting ring to be brought down to ground level for inspection or replacement. This makes routine maintenance safer and more convenient, especially for large installations.

With the development of high-efficiency LED floodlights, high mast systems can now provide high brightness with lower power consumption, while maintaining stable and uniform lighting over large spaces. A single installation can cover several thousand square meters, which is why this type of lighting is widely used in infrastructure and industrial projects.
